Hi Becky,

We have two governance committees that deal with these sorts of things -- we have an Academic Standards and Awards Committee (ASAC) that hears appeals of suspension for academic (grade) reasons and we have a Campus Life and Community Standards Committee (CLCSC) from which are drawn the pool of board members for academic integrity and student conduct violations.

We also have trained board members outside the CLCSC that serve on boards as needed.

ASAC has 4 faculty who are the voting members for appeals as well as a handful of administrators from Academic Affairs and Student Life. There are students on the committee but they do not participate in appeals meetings.

CLCSC has 5 faculty and a host of administrators from various areas as well as students. We use three person hearing panels for academic integrity and student conduct purposes. Students are eligible to serve on those panels but rarely do so.

Happy to talk more as needed.

Thanks,
Ian

Hi all,
We are looking at our Appeals committee structure, and I recall this came up as a topic of discussion in December in Chicago.

We currently have a "Student Standing and Appeals" committee that exists to hear appeals related to academic integrity, student conduct, and a few other stand-alone academic policies.

Have you ended appeals committees for these types of policies or are you still using them? If you are still using them - who manages the committee (by role) and who is on it (faculty? staff? students?).

Any insight is appreciated! Thank you and Happy Friday!
